Morocco: French high-speed rail linking Casablanca and Tangier

Paris - France's Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade Pierre Lellouche said, in Paris, that the Moroccan-French cooperation in terms of railway is a "great success".

He underlined that this cooperation has been strengthened by the high-speed rail service linking Casablanca and Tangier, which will be equipped by the French group Alstom.

The group has committed, in a strategic industrial partnership with Morocco in the next ten years for 6 billion dirhams, to investing in a plant to generate, over the same period, over 3.5 billion-dirham exports and sign contracts with a company of offshoring in Morocco, he added.

“In Morocco, we had very big success last year, including the Casablanca-Tangier high-speed rail service, a great selling point in other Arab world’s countries,” the French official told MAP at the occasion of the presentation, in Paris, of the annual figures of his country’s foreign trade.

Lellouche said that through this project “we are no longer in supplier-customer relations, but of partnership,” reiterating the French engineering’s support for development of the rail industry in Morocco.

He also commended the development taking place in Morocco, a country which is “open to the world” in order to support its large-scale projects, like the Tangier Med port project, which is also “a real success,” he pointed out.

He also called on the French companies to invest in Morocco as the country offers various opportunities at the infrastructure and human levels.
